Tulum Honeymoon in Mexico

Tulum is perfect for couples who are looking for a more relaxed honeymoon style. Tulum is more laid back than Cancun, but has the same fabulous beaches, hotels and amenities. You’ll find smaller crowds and more upscale resort and restaurants.

The town of Tulum first became popular with yogis and artists and it still has some of that boho style. Tulum has lots of health and wellness options for travelers. You’ll find studios for yoga and pilates. Plus spas for massage and other treatments.

What Is a Cenote?

Cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula are sinkholes, where the limestone surface collapsed and opened to freshwater rivers below ground. Some cenotes are open air swimming holes and some are in underground caverns.

Mayans once worshipped the cenote as an entrance to the underworld. On a more practical level, cenotes also provided fresh water for the Mayans.

Lots of day trips include stops at a cenote, so you’ll have a chance to swim in a natural jungle setting. The cenotes are a great place to cool off after an ATV ride or a hike around Mayan ruins, so remember to bring your bathing suits.

Cenote Dos Ojos is located between Playa Del Carmen and Tulum. It’s easy to visit from most hotels and resorts, including those in the Mayan Riviera.

Above ground, the cenote is full of cool looking stalagmites and stalactites. Underground has tons of fish for snorkelers and scuba divers to see. As well, there’s an underground tunnel that connects the caverns for adventurous scuba divers to swim through.

Riviera Maya Honeymoon

Riviera Maya is the perfect honeymoon destination for couples who want a big resort with lots of amenities. You’ll find tons of things to do for day trips off the resort.

Fun Things To Do In Riviera Maya:

ATV Jungle Excursion

Personal pictures! When we booked our ATV excursion, we were going to share one. But I get bored pretty easily. So we booked two - one for each of us. It turns out, they’re pretty easy to drive.

On our tour, we mostly drove along dirt paths in the jungle. There were one or two rocky spots, but the leader helped anyone who needed it. I never had so much fun in my entire life! 10/10 highly recommend booking two ATVS.

Enjoy a full day of adventure. Drive your own ATV through the jungle, swim in a cenote and fly on a zip line. Includes Mexican lunch and transportation.

When you’re ready for lunch, find a beach club where you can enjoy fish tacos with your feet in the sand. After lunch relax in a hammock before driving back to your resort.

As well as fantastic beaches, Cozumel has a picturesque main town, called San Miguel. It’s a short taxi ride from most resorts, so it’s easy to visit for shopping or a night out.

Cozumel is close to the Mesoamerican reef and has several world class diving sites. If you’re not a diver, you can see tons of fish and coral while snorkeling above or from a glass bottom boat.
