Whether you’re looking for romance, relaxation or adventure, you can find it all on a Cancun honeymoon. With romantic beaches, sunsets and dinners for two, Cancun is the perfect place to celebrate your new marriage. Add a few fun day trips like snorkeling, zip lining or tubing and you’ll have the perfect honeymoon.

Arriving at the Cancun Airport

While you’re on the plane, the flight attendants will pass out some forms. You’ll need to fill these out and give them to the customs agent when you arrive.  One form is the Tourist Card, or Visa. You’ll need one per person and you’ll need to fill out the entire form. The second form is the Customs Declaration. You’ll need one per family.

Immigration and Customs

  • Once you land, follow the crowd to Immigration, where you’ll hand over your passport and Tourist Card. The agent will take the Entry portion of the Tourist Card, stamp the Exit portion and give that piece back to you. You’ll need it when you leave Mexico, so keep it with your passport.

  • After Immigration, you’ll head to the baggage carousels. Once you’ve collected your luggage, you can go to the customs area. You’ll put all your baggage through an x-ray machine.

  • After the x-ray, stick together and hand over your Customs Declaration. Next, you’ll step up to the stoplight. One of you can push the button.

  • If you get a green light, you’re free to go. If you get a red light, you’ll go to the side and an agent will look through your bags. If you get the red light, don’t worry, it’s completely random. The check only takes a few minutes and you’ll be on your way.

  • You’re done with customs!

Find Your Ride

Once you walk out of customs, you’ll be greeted by loads of friendly people asking if you need a taxi, if you need help with your bags, if you want to book an excursion. Just say no thank you and keep walking. These are all salesmen for time share programs.

Your ride will be waiting outside with a sign that has either your name or the name of the tour company you booked with. If your hotel offers free transfers, you might need to look for a mini bus with the hotel name on it.

If you want to travel in luxury, consider booking a private transfer. Avoid crowded buses and wasted time. Get to your resort in style and book a Private Luxury SUV.

Things to Do: Day Trips and Excursions in Cancun

The Underwater Museum of Art

The Underwater Museum of Art began as a marine conservation project. The first statues were created as a way to promote coral life. There’s currently over 500 life size sculptures and it’s considered one of the most successful conservation projects in the world. The statues allow coral, seaweed and algae to grow and attract marine life. This makes it a great spot for scuba diving, snorkeling or visiting on a glass bottom boat.

Water Sports in Cancun

If you’re looking for free activities, most resorts offer snorkeling gear, stand up paddling and kayaking for their guests. If you’d like to try parasailing or jet skiing, you can find rentals at all the beaches.

Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins

Chichen Itza is an archeological site made up of ancient Mayan ruins. It was named a Unesco World Heritage site as well as one of the 7 Modern Wonders of the World. If you decide to visit, you’ll get to see the main pyramid, El Castillo, and the observatory, El Caracol. Plus the Temple of the Warriors and the Mayan Ball Game.

It takes about 3 hours to get to Chichen Itza on a bus, so most tours will plan stops and excursions along the way. Some tours will include shopping, tequila tasting or a swim in a cenote for a full day of excursions.

Book a day trip that includes a guided tour of Chichen Itza plus a swim in Cenote Maya Park.

Visit the Mayan Ruins at Tulum

The Tulum Ruins are smaller than other Mayan sites, but the view can’t be beat. The ruins are perched on a cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The site has a main pyramid, El Castillo, a House of the Columns and a House of the High Priest. You can also visit the Temple of the Frescos where you can look inside and see an ancient mural.

It takes about an hour to tour the site. Once you’re finished, you’ll find a set of stairs beside the main pyramid. If you head down, you’ll find a white sandy, turquoise beach. It’s the perfect spot to cool off, so remember to bring your swimsuit.

Book a half day tour that includes a visit to the ruins and snorkeling at Tulum.
