If you’re looking for an edible treat, popcorn wedding favors are a fun surprise for your guests.

You can offer the favors in one of two ways:

  1. Prepackaged, in individual boxes or bags.

  2. Set up as a popcorn bar or buffet, for your guests to serve themselves.

Prepackaged Popcorn Wedding Favors

If you want your popcorn favors to be individually wrapped, you can buy them prepackaged. If you’d like, you can add a personalized sticker or tag to each favor. On your wedding day, the prepackaged favors can be set out at each place setting, or on a table, where guests can pick one up.

How Do You Make Popcorn Wedding Favors?

If you’d like to personalize your favors, or save money, popcorn favors are a great project to DIY. You can order flavored popcorn in bulk, then package and label them yourself. If you want to do lots of DIY, you can even make your own popcorn, spice mixes or flavors.

How To Set Up a Wedding Popcorn Bar

Another way to offer popcorn wedding favors is by setting up a wedding popcorn bar. You can set it up during dancing, as a midnight snack. Or you can set it up just in time for guests to fill their bags as a take home treat.

For a wedding popcorn bar, you can set out containers of flavored popcorn, for guests to serve themselves. Or you can set it up as a buffet, with plain popcorn plus spice shakers and toppings.

To set up a wedding popcorn bar, you’ll need:

  • Popcorn

  • Spices

  • Toppings

  • Popcorn containers

  • Favor bags or boxes

  • Scoops for serving

  • Signs and table decor

What Kind of Popcorn Should You Buy For Wedding Favors?

If you’re offering spices or toppings, you can buy plain popcorn in bulk. When you buy it, check the manufacturers advice for freshness. In general, popcorn will stay fresh for a few weeks, depending on the packaging.

If you’d like to offer popcorn that’s already flavored, you’ve got lots to choose from. You can choose savory flavors, like BBQ, dill pickle or ranch. Or sweet flavors like cotton candy, vanilla or cherry.

Wedding Popcorn Machine

If you’re having a DIY wedding, you might even rent a popcorn machine in order to make it hot and fresh. The only thing to keep in mind is the smell it’ll make. You know how the whole house smells like popcorn any time you make it? Your wedding will smell like that too! A popcorn machine would be best at an outdoor wedding or a casual, fun wedding at home.

How Much Popcorn Do You Need For Wedding Popcorn Favors?

If you’re giving out popcorn as a favor at the end of the night, choose the bags or boxes you’ll be using. Measure how much popcorn you need to fill one container, then multiply it by the number of favors you’ll need.

If you’re setting up your popcorn bar as a midnight snack, or for people to help themselves throughout the night, plan for 2 to 4 cups of popcorn per person.

Signs For Your Popcorn Wedding Favors

The type of signs you need depends on how you’re serving your popcorn. If it’s set out in individual bags, it’s pretty self explanatory. You can add a simple sign or banner that says “Popcorn Bar”.

If you’re offering different flavors of popcorn, you can set up signs for each one. If your guests are going to serve themselves, you can add a sign with instructions, suggestions or recipes.

Popcorn Wedding Favor Bags and Boxes

If you’re packaging the favors ahead of time, choose a bag or box that holds about 2 cups of popcorn. If you’re planning a buffet style popcorn bar, where people will go back for seconds, choose smaller favor bags or boxes. Look for bags or boxes that’ll hold 1 to 2 cups each. With smaller containers, people will take less, and you won’t run out of popcorn too soon.

Containers For Your Wedding Popcorn Bar

If you’re planning a buffet style wedding popcorn bar, you’ll need some big containers to hold your popcorn. Look for large bowls, buckets or baskets that match your wedding decor.

If you’re having plain popcorn with lots of toppings, put out 2 or 3 big containers of popcorn. Fill the rest of the table with the spice shakers or popcorn toppings. If you’re having flavored popcorn, put out 1 container for each flavor.

Make sure the containers are food safe - you don’t want splinters or dust getting into your popcorn! If you want to use containers that aren’t designed for serving food, you can line them with food safe bags before you put the popcorn or toppings in.

Toppings For Your Wedding Popcorn Bar

You can make or order different toppings for your popcorn bar. You can have spices in shakers, or small bowls of nuts and chocolates, for your guests to scoop onto their popcorn.

If you buy spices, they’ll come in assorted shapes and sizes. If you’re having a casual wedding, you can set them out in their original containers.

If you want your popcorn table to look more elegant, buy some matching containers to serve the toppings in. Add some stickers, mini signs or food cards so your guests will know which toppings are which.

If you have room in the budget, you can even add deluxe toppings like mini marshmallows, chocolate chips or mini m&m’s.

  • Butter

  • Salt and pepper

  • Cinnamon sugar

  • Cocoa

  • Pumpkin spice

  • Wasabi powder

  • Tajin spice

  • Peanuts

  • Pretzels

  • Caramels

  • M&Ms

  • Chocolate chips

  • Mini marshmallows

  • Gummie bears

  • Red hots
