How to Plan a Pool Party Bachelorette

1. Decide on your party budget.

Setting the budget is the most important step in planning a bachelorette. You want to spend enough to have a fun party, but not so much that your guests can’t afford it!

Traditionally, the cost of the bachelorette party is split among all the attendees. Talk to the other bridesmaids and find out how much everyone is willing to spend. Once you have a solid number you can start planning.

2. Set the guest list.

A traditional bachelorette party only includes the bride and her bridal party. Some modern parties will include other close friends or family of the bride.

If you’ve got the space and the bride wants a big party, you can invite as many people as you want. Etiquette wise, the only real rule is that you shouldn’t invite anyone who’s not invited to the wedding.

3. Choose the date, time and location.

Sometimes the toughest part will be finding a date that works for everyone. Ask the bride for 2 or 3 different dates that will work for her schedule. Then get feedback from the rest of the group. Ideally, you can find a day that everyone can make it. If not, let the bride choose the date that makes the most sense for her.

Once you’ve chosen your date, you can reserve the pool. If you have a private pool, it could be the perfect spot for your bachelorette party. If not, look into your local clubs, community centers or hotels.

When you’re choosing your location, make sure to check that it’s got all the safety precautions in place. Be sure you’ve got the proper flotation or safety devices and someone to supervise the swimmers.

4. Plan your meals, snacks and drinks.

Start by thinking about the timing of your party. If it’s during a meal time, you’ll need to serve a meal. If your party is in the afternoon, between meals, you can serve appetizers or snacks instead.

Order Takeout

If you’ve got the budget, the simplest way to serve a meal is by ordering takeout. You can order from the bride’s favorite restaurant and have it delivered in time for lunch or dinner. Or choose classic takeout, like pizza, tacos or burgers and set up a buffet table for your guests to enjoy.

Have a BBQ Meal

If you’d like to save some money, barbecuing chicken, burgers or sausage is an inexpensive way to serve lots of tasty food. You can BBQ the main course, then add buns, toppings and salads to round out the meal.

Appetizers and Snacks

If your party is in between meals, you don’t need to serve a full spread. But you should offers some munchies or snacks - especially if you’ll be having drinks. You can make your own appetizers or buy some ready made, then heat them up on the day of the party.

Drinks for a Bachelorette Pool Party

If you’d like to keep it simple, choose 2 or 3 signature cocktails, then buy enough alcohol, mixers and garnishes to make those drinks. On the day of the party, you can mix them up, and serve them in pretty pitchers.

Set the table with the pitchers of drinks, cups or glasses and garnishes, like lime slices, cherries and paper umbrellas. Your guests can help themselves whenever they need a refill. Remember to include a few non alcoholic options, like water, juice or soda.

5. Double check your budget and collect each person’s share.

Once you’ve decided on your food and drinks, double check the math and make sure the budget’s going to work out. Once you’re sure your numbers are good, ask the other party goers to contribute their share.

To avoid misunderstandings and hurt feelings later on, it’s best to get the money up front. Try to collect from everyone before you start making purchases.

6. Choose some games or activities and buy the supplies.

Fun and active games will be best for a pool party bachelorette. You can look for classic pool games, like volleyball or ring toss. Or look for traditional bachelorette games, like charades, puzzle blocks or scavenger hunts.

7. Buy your bachelorette decorations.

It’s fine to stick with regular decorations, like beach balls and floaties. Or, if you’d rather go all out, you can find tons of fun bachelorette decor with themes that are perfect for a pool party. Look for themes like:

  • Last Splash

9. Set up on the day of the party.

On the day of the party, set up your decorations and get the food ready. Even if you do lots of prep ahead of time, you might still need help on the day of. If you do, talk to the other bridesmaids ahead of time. Make sure they’re willing and able to help.
